Welcome to fgiancane8.dev website!

Hello! It took me some effort, but I am finally online! The main reason behind this effort is that I decided I needed (and yes, I wanted too) to have a personal presence online, a space where I can introduce myself and publish some of my ideas and content in general.

Up to now, I have used an online service called VisualCV to prepare my personal resume and keep it updated. Since now it is a fully paid service and since I happen to be a Computer Science engineer, I decided to go through the effort of keeping my data for myself and hosting my content on a webpage.

Here is a list of interesting technologies that are powering this website:

Porkbun is a super-fancy and very convenient registrar, highly recommended as it supports very nice features and for a cheap. Al-Folio theme is a very interesting theme for GitHub Pages and Jekyll, and it is heavily oriented towards academic. I modified it and stripped of all things and plugins I will not be using (since I am not an academic person… yet) and I am also planning to publish in a repository of mine this stripped version (geared towards developers and engineers… of course).

Putting online this small website was an interesting endeavour to me, first of all because I usually do not work with Web technologies and secondly, I did not know the power of all these frameworks as they are evolved now (my interests and background are on somewhat lower level technologies… if interested have a look at my skills in the dedicated section of my cv). I also took the opportunity to convert most of my data for the resume in a plain-text format and keeping it archived on my GitHub page. This is because up to now, I was depending on LinkedIn and some proprietary data format to keep my resume and stuff online. For the good and the bad, I think it is time I depended less on external website and providers, especially when a lot of personal data is at stake and there is not always the control you would like to have on such sensitive areas.

Stay tuned, I will try to keep my posts updated and upload more content over time.
